This course is for students with little or no background in Italian. Emphasizes the four comprehension skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), although class time is used primarily to practice listening to and speaking Italian. Proficiency is achieved in the present tenses, the use of articles, and everyday vocabulary. An awareness of contemporary Italian culture is also emphasized. Laboratory tapes supplement the course.
