This introductory course is for students who aspire to a career in print or electronic journalism or related fields. The course focuses on the reporter's job in getting good stories. A series of assignments provides students with opportunities to learn and develop skills in researching, gathering source materials, and interviewing techniques. The course introduces students to computer-assisted reporting and integrates law and ethics as important aspects of the reporting process. The assignments encourage students to identify the news, report it, and write interesting stories about institutions and the people affected. Prerequisite: EN 101 and keyboarding skills. ( 3 semester hours) Fall
