Classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower students to enter employment, or further education and training in the computer networking field. Instruction includes a review of the Open System Interconnection (OSI), Reference Model, a study of the OSI layer functions, local area network (LAN) switching, Ethernet and virtual LANs (VLANs), LAN design, interior gateway routing protocol (IGRP), access control lists (ACLs), Novell Internet Packet Exchange (IPX), and network management. In addition, the student will learn appropriate methodologies for managing networks, with emphasis placed on clear and adequate documentation of a network. This course will prepare the student to take the Cisco CCNA exam. Grades: Option (A-F), P/NP.
