Through sociological views of marriage and family, this course examines the nature of an intimate relationship, individual and family life stages, as well as the function, purpose and structure of family. Using both a historical and multicultural approach, the course explores topics such as marriage and childbearing patterns, adoptive parenting, gay and lesbian families, communication and conflict resolution, the influence of popular culture, the rights and benefits of marriage, and working families.
