RESP 250 - Clinical Education VII Advanced Critical Care

Spring Lab fee will be required. Students are assigned to an active intensive care unit, under close supervision, for the purpose of participating in advanced complete hands-on respiratory care of the critically ill patient. Some of the procedures emphasized are arterial blood gas sampling techniques, infection control and isolation procedures, monitoring of ventilator patients, weaning techniques, CPR, airway management, ventilator trouble shooting. In addition, students will participate in the formulation of respiratory care plans based upon clinical patient assessment, interpretation of blood gases, and evaluation of data gathered through invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques. This course is open only to matriculated Respiratory Care students or those with permission of the department chairperson. A letter grade of "C" or better is required for graduation. Prerequisite: RESP 225, Introduction to Critical Care.
