(Prerequisites: VET 216; VET 213; VET 212; Corequisite: VET 222; VET 223) Provides an overview into the study of exotic animals used in research. Emphasis is placed on selecting animals for research, maintaining safety and health, providing proper care and handling, managing pain, and laboratory procedures. Topics include: selection and procurement of animals; safety and health considerations; husbandry, care, and importance of the environment; laboratory and exotic animal handling and restraint; pain management; animal health; laboratory procedures; and laws, regulations, and policies on care and use of laboratory animals.
