Prerequisite: GER 202 or permission of the instructor. 3 credits This course examines women in film and literature in German speaking countries. The works of internationally known film-makers, such as Lang, Riefenstahl, Fasbinder, Herzog, Wenders. Marischka will be discussed, as well as selected essays, short stories, and poetry of 18th, 19th and 20th century women writers. Both genres reflect significant changes in European society and culture, including the development of German feminism and contemporary gender issues in Germanspeaking countries.
