Consumer issues such as health insurance, legal rights of consumers, informed consent and medical malpractice are examined in this course. Problems consumers may experience when attempting to purchase health care products are also explored. The course attempts to prepare students to look critically at the myriad of health services and providers available to them, using current scientific research. Students' personal experiences and interests, as consumers of health, are drawn upon in class. Prerequisite: HLTH 401 Introduction to Public Health
