This course explains how companies are using IP Telephony equipment and software to efficiently upgrade existing telephone systems. The course will additionally give the student a fundamental understanding of the architecture of voice communication and how signaling, call quality and public switched telephone network operate in a LAN/WAN networking environment. The use of IP Telephony products will be discussed and how software allows companies to cost-effectively upgrade and eventually replace existing (legacy) telephone systems with more cost-effective and easy-to-use telephone equipment. Lab fee required. Prerequisite: CET 1600C or CET 1485 or permission of instructor.
