The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an indepth study of automotive engines, nomenclature of parts, engine types, sizes, and operating principles. Engine overhaul procedures are studied and performed, includng valve train service and machining. Emphasis is placed on proper diagnoses of engine problems, including loss of compression, lubrication of components, cylinder balance, noise and vibration problems. Lab fee required. Prerequisite: AER 0011C or permission of instructor.
