3 credits (spring) Prerequisites: EL101 and EL102, or Permission of Instructor History and Appreciation of Music II studies the development of Western music through the ages. The course begins with the late 18th century music of Beethoven and continues through the 20th century music of Debussy, Schoenberg, Copland, Gershwin, Ives and others, and touches upon the new trends of the 20th century. Emphasis is on the characteristics of the style of each period, including the forms of music and the composers prominent in each.
