3 credits Issues throughout the African Diaspora vary from country to country and from culture to culture. Diverse cultures, family structures, immigration and assimilation are reflected in the literature that can provide a window to understanding the people of the African Diaspora. This course will focus upon the way in which discrimination and oppression are experienced as well as seen through the eyes of people of African descent. Biases reflected upon race, ethnicity, culture, religion, sex, social and economic status, and political ideology will be the focus of the readings, lectures, videos, and discussions within this course.
