3 credits (fall) Prerequisites: EL101 and EL102, or Permission of Instructor History and Appreciation of Music I studies the development of Western music through the ages. The course begins with the Gregorian Chant of the Middle Ages (500) and ends with the early 18th century Classical music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Emphasis is on the characteristics of the style of each period, including the forms of music and the composers prominent in each.
