3 credits (spring odd year) Prerequisites: EL102 (C- grade or better), the equivalent or permission of the instructor. This course provides an introduction to United States poetry, prose, and drama from the Civil War to the present. Emphasis is placed on situating texts in their cultural, social, and historical contexts. Course materials will include texts by well known writers, such as Mark Twain and Langston Hughes, as well as works by lesser known writers.
