Prerequisite: NURS 1020 This introduction to mental health nursing focuses on nursing management of clients experiencing acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses across the lifespan. The course emphasizes development of students' self-awareness, therapeutic communication, and professional behaviors to provide competent nursing care to individuals. Emphasis is on utilizing strategies that promote respect and support in the maintenance of mental health. Principles of evidence based practice, pharmacology, and nutrition are integrated throughout the course.
