3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Co-req.: ENG 140 Using the topical approach, the course focuses on the development of modern India , China , and Japan . This course presents a cultural and historical survey of: India from the Sixteenth Century Islamic Mughal period to the present; China from the Eighteenth Century decline of the Ch'ing Dynasty to the present; and Japan from the Tokugawa Shogunate in the Seventeenth Century to the present. The underlying philosophical principles, major personalities, and events that shaped these Eastern societies are examined.
