This lecture-format class focuses on preparing students to sit for the Animal Resource Exams. The course covers optimizing facility resources such as evaluating, planning, renovating, and monitoring facilities, doing standard operating procedures, and protecting assets and personnel as well as disaster planning and management. In addition, managing fiscal resources such as developing and monitoring budgets, grants, and contracts, and cost- management techniques are taught. Achieving regulatory compliance as relates to research-facility management is covered as well managing animal welfare and assuring public trust. An additional topic will be total containment solutions for domestic preparedness.
