This course is a capstone course for the Health Information Management A.S. program in which students will complete a supervised professional practice experience in a health information management (HIM) department of a hospital and alternative health care setting. The student will review HIM workflow and perform advanced HIM functions in order to bridge the academics of HIM to current HIM workforce needs and responsibilities. Emphasis will be placed on records retrieval and retention, assembly, qualitative and quantitative record analysis, inpatient and outpatient coding, abstracting, statistical compiling and reporting of health care data, release of information, and use of specific HIM software applications. Prerequisites: BSC 2094C, ENC 1101, HIM 1000, HIM 1222C, HIM 2013, HIM 2211C, HIM 2253C, HIM 2261, HIM 2510, HIM 2940, HSC 1149, INP 2002, STA 2023, with grades of C or higher. Corequisites: HIM 2214, HIM 2283, HIM 2500.
