This course serves as an introduction to healthcare reimbursement methodologies, claims processing (CMS-1500), insurance carrier requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. It acquaints students with the billing procedures used in physician offices. Strong emphasis will be placed on regulatory compliance and auditing. The students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a laboratory setting utilizing practice management/billing software. Lab fee required. Prerequisites: HIM 1000 and HIM 1222C with a minimum grade of C or better. Corequisite: HIM 2253C.
