This course examines in great depth the principles, mechanisms and implementation of network security and data protection. Students learn to understand the topics Cipher Block Mode, Key Distribution methodology, Public Key Infrastructure, Kerberos, X.509 Directory Security, IP/Web/Email Security, SLS (secured sockets layer), PGP (pretty good privacy), and Network Security Management from both an internal and external security reference. Basic networking concepts and security principles required. Lab fee required. Prerequisite: CIS 1354.
