Prerequisites: AAE 373 and AAE 374. A minimum grade of C+ is required in all art education courses and a minimum grade of C is required in all other major courses. This fourth course in the professional art education sequence is an advanced pedagogy course designed to provide students with teaching experiences and knowledge that will guide their future success as K-12 art educators. The course consists of weekly class meetings and field experiences at the elementary and secondary school level. The field experiences allow students to observe quality arts instruction in the schools, examine effective art curricula, collaborate with peers and cooperate with New Jersey art teachers Art (Art Education Courses)-2 in designing and implementing art lessons, and interact with and teach K-12 students. The field experiences will be arranged by the STEP Office and course instructor, and classroom observations will be conducted for each student in the field. Other important topics of inquiry including assessment, art criticism, classroom management, portfolios, budgets, social issues, politics, and special needs in the art classroom will be explored through readings, discussions, in-class activities, written assignments, personal reflections, and presentations.
