Description:
Prepares the student to care for groups of clients (psychiatric, pediatric and obstetric) whose health is influenced by diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, racial, cultural, physical and environmental factors within the community. The nursing process is used throughout to enhance the student's knowledge of assessment and the accompanying skills that reflect professional practice. The student will identify appropriate nursing plans of care in response to the client's self-care deficits by utilizing Orem's System Theory of wholly compensatory, partly compensatory, or supportive educative system. Preventative strategies based on the health trends and goals of Healthy People 2010 are implemented. Emphasis is placed on concepts of comprehensive healthcare. Disaster nursing and emergency response measures also are explored. Prerequisite: NUR 200 Corequisite: NUR 202 Offered: Fall
