Combines the basic principles and theories of chemistry with calculating the solution of mathematical problems involving measurements, properties of matter, chemical reactions, gas laws, thermochemistry, chemical bonding and solutions. Students use scientific calculators. In the laboratory portion of class, students apply manipulative techniques which allow first-hand observations of chemical transformations. The course is taught through lecture, discussion, demonstrations, video discs, manipulative lab practice, computer-simulated lab practice and cooperative group problem solving. Prerequisites: Completion of ENG 98, if required, and high school chemistry or CHM 100 Corequisite: MA 95, if required Offered: Fall, Spring
