Puritan and colonial writing, romanticism and transcendentalism are examined through the works of such authors as Bradford, Mather, Bradstreet, Franklin, Rowlandson, Cooper, Hawthorne, Wheatley, Poe, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Dickinson and Douglas.
