UC*, CSU Prerequisite: None. The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to hiking and backpacking. Topics to be covered include selection of equipment, clothing and food. Safety, first aid, survival and map reading will also be discussed. Participation in weekend field trips will be required. 18 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory.
