UC*, CSU Prerequisite: None. Ecology is the study of the interactions between organisms and their environment. Basic principles include evolutionary adaptations, abiotic factors such as climate, soils and vegetation, population growth and genetics, competition, predation and parasitism, community interactions, succession, species diversity, island biogeography, and the major biomes found on Earth. Discussion on human impacts on the environment will also be included. This course requires field trips. 54 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory.
