This course introduces students to the language and culture of persons in the Deaf community. Students demonstrate a basic competence in the structural elements of American Sign Language, including nonverbal communication techniques, grammar principles, basic vocabulary, and conversational skills. Students examine the role of American Sign Language within the context of the culture of the Deaf community.
