An introduction to the study of microorganisms, their basic morphology, cultivation, metabolism, and genetics. Infectious diseases are considered. Emphasis is placed on the bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Laboratory work stresses sterile technique, microscopic, cultural, and biochemical characteristics, and control of microorganisms. Three hours lecture and one three-hour laboratory period per week. Pre-requisite: BIO 211
