An introduction to the physiologic principles and techniques of ventilatory support, including indications for mechanical ventilation, invasive and noninvasive airway management, functional operation of mechanical ventilators, initiating and adjusting ventilatory support parameters, basic monitoring and management of the patient in respiratory failure, and discontinuting ventilatory support.
