Prerequisite: Placement Test score within designated range. American Readings and Conversation II is a two-semester companion course designed to provide reading, speaking, listening, and writing practice for non-native speakers of English who are not intending to enter a degree or certificate program at Raritan Valley Community College. Non-fiction articles, fiction stories as well as readings and listening activities on current events will be used to increase students' vocabularies and provide them the opportunity to engage in discussions and presentations that will strengthen oral fluency in and comprehension of English. Students will also engage in informal writing assignments which will allow them to broadly develop their English language abilities. In American Readings and Conversation II, students will discuss such topics as: gender roles, sports and leisure activities, popular culture, and cultural values and morals. Credit for this course does not apply to credit hours earned, grade point average, or graduation requirements.
