This course explores the historical, cultural, philosophical, and foundational theories and elements of human systems of medicine and healing from shamanism through biomedicine and integrative medicine. Students examine traditional systems of health including traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Curanderismo, and Naturopathy; explore the perspectives of oriental and western cultures on illness, health, and healing; and, consider contributions of ancient traditions to present-day beliefs.
