Called "the father of the Beat Generation," and considered by Timemagazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th Century, Lowell-born writer Jack Kerouac remains one of America's least understood authors. Students will read some of Kerouac's most important works, including On the Road, Lonesome Traveler, Visions of Gerard and Doctor Sax; look at his influence on fellow Beatniks such as Alan Ginsburg and William Burroughs; and understand why Jack Kerouac is still a powerful influence on American popular culture.
