Traces the history of the earth and its life through time. The principles of stratigraphy and correlation are introduced and used to interpret the rock and fossil record. The evolution of the earth, atmosphere, oceans and life are emphasized. Geologic time and its measurement and a review of plate tectonics and its importance in reconstructing geologic history. Lab exercises familiarize students with various fossil groups and the techniques used in deciphering and interpreting geologic history. 3 hours lecture/2 hours laboratory Prerequisite: Placement above or successful completion of ENG 060 (EN 2103) and eligibility for ENG 101 (EN 1103). Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in ENG 075 (EN 2122) or ENG 085 (EN 2131) if CPT reading placement test is between 68 and 75. General Education Elective: Science
