A survey and analysis of United States history and institutions which contributed to the evolution of the American nation from colonial times through the period of the Civil War. Particular attention is given to the impact of nationalism and sectionalism on the economic, political and cultural development of the United States. Prerequisite: Placement above or successful completion of ENG 060 (EN 2103). Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in ENG 075 (EN 2122) or ENG 085 (EN 2131) if CPT reading placement test if between 68 and 75. Corequisite: ENG 071 (EN 1101) or eligible for ENG 101 (EN 1103).
