The basic principles of chemistry, including metric measurement, properties of matter, atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry and solutions, with emphasis on the usefulness of the periodic table in predicting chemical behavior. Designed primarily for students with no previous chemistry courses. The laboratory includes an experimental study of the chemical principles. 3 hours lecture/3 hours laboratory. Prerequisite: MAT 070 (MA 1103) and ENG 071 (EN 1101) or placement above or successful completion of ENG 060 (EN 2103). Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in ENG 075 (EN 2122) or ENG 085 (EN 2131) if CPT reading placement test is between 68 and 75. General Education Electives: Science
