ENG 330 - African American Literature

The course introduces students to prominent authors and major themes of the African-American literary tradition. The major genres, including slave narratives, autobiography, and poetry, among others, are examined. Major historical movements including the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movement are explored. The literature is analyzed in historical context allowing examination of how the literature was influenced by and responded to conditions of African-American life at different moments in American history. Prerequisites: ENG 101; Students earning a grade of B or higher in ENG 101 may opt to take ENG 330 in place of ENG 102. 3 credits (Fall)
