3 Credits This course provides a basic history and overview of computer operating systems. Basic theories, concepts and terminology, and evolution of computer operating systems are covered. Development, function, and comparisons of common operating systems such as DOS, Windows 9x, WindowsNT/2000, Unix/Linux, AS/400, and Mac OS are discussed. In particular, this class is meant to introduce processes such as the processing unit, file systems, process management, synchronization, memory management and I/O management. Prerequisite: CGS-1000
