Prerequisite: RTE 2575. This course is designed to develop an understanding of MR image acquisition and the hardware used in the acquisition of images. The course provides information in the use and manipulation of the hardware and technical parameters used in the generation of images. Included are a review of safety and special applications such as advanced imaging techniques. This information is useful to enable the student to maximize MR image quality by understanding the fundamentals of MR imaging. Topics discussed will include coil availability and selection, consideration of scan sequences, specific choices in protocols such as slice thickness, phase direction, and flow compensation, pulse sequencing, image parameters, and quality assurance.
