The course introduces Korean culture and culture-based Korean communication styles. Drawing upon the interdisciplinary work of cultural studies and pragmatics, it deals with selected topics in Korean culture, thoughts, and practices, and examines the intricacies of communication as cultural practices informed by social parameters. Greater emphasis will be devoted to contemporary societal patterns and developments in South Korea, but traditional society will be discussed in some depth.
