LEC 3 hrs., LAB 1 hr., Course fee $40 This is an introductory course in personal computer operating systems. Topics include the features and characteristics of operating system software; installation and configuration including customization, file organization and management; memory and storage management; control of peripheral devices; troubleshooting; networking wizard; and the use of utilities to monitor system performance, to backup data, and to optimize disks. The course focuses primarily on Windows XP, but also includes MS-DOS and Linux. Laboratory assignments provide hands-on opportunities for students to apply the information related in lectures.
