LEC 3 hrs., LAB 0 hrs. Prerequisites: PSY 113, PSY 213, PSY 217, ENG 118, MUS 129, REC 118 This course will focus on the growth and development of the child, birth through age eight. Special emphasis will be placed on cognitive, language, physical, social, and emotional development. It will cover a variety of factors that influence child development. The objectives of this course are for the student to understand that a variety of factors influence the behavior of the child. In understanding the capability of the developing child, the early childhood teacher will be better enabled to provide the child with appropriate care. A field work component includes observations of children's behavior in an early childhood setting. The purpose of this is to understand the need for goals, helping the child achieve these goals, and providing for individual differences.
