Prerequisite: Permission of honors coordinator or department LEC 3 hrs., LAB 0 hrs. This seminar critically examines the central ideas of Plato and Aristotle on knowledge, mind, body, freedom, nature, ethics, politics, and religion. Plato's dialogues such as the Republic, Thaetetus, Protagoras, Meno, Phaedo, and Symposium; and writings of Aristotle such as the Metaphysics, On the Soul, Ethics, Politics, and Poetics are studied. The seminar also contrasts their views with those of other ancient philosophers, such as Pythagoras, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Zeno, Epictetus, Cicero, and Aurelius. Students develop the ability to formulate their own views on philosophic issues.
