Prerequisite: BIO 2080 and CHE 1200 and CHE 1200L; plus BIO 2150L taken in the same semester Basic principles of human nutrition as applied to the maintenance of health and disease prevention are studied. Topics include nutritional requirements at different developmental stages: digestion, absorption, storage, and metabolism of major nutrients; energy balance and caloric requirements; and hormonal influences on metabolism. Also covered are examples of nutrition-related dysfunctions. This course is intended for students with an interest in health services. Credit for this course may be earned through departmental examination. Offered in the spring semester.
