HTH 1430 - Phlebotomy and Diagnostic Lab Tests

Prerequisite: HTH 1410, BIO 1040/1040L, BIO 1600; plus BIO 2800 taken in the same or a previous semester; plus have current CPR as a Health Care Provider and First Aid certifications; plus permission of department chair Students learn to safely and aseptically perform phlebotomy and capillary puncture, and collect and process blood and other specimens for testing or transport. Topics include point-ofcare testing; CLIA-waived hermatology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and microbiology testing; quality control and assurance; laboratory safety; and recordkeeping. Laboratory and practicum experiences are included in the course. Offered days or evenings during the spring semester on the La Plata Campus. Course fee: $100.00
