WFS 2210 - Open Water Scuba Diving

Prerequisite: water skills will be assessed during first class Students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving in lakes, bays, and oceans. Students learn principles of diving physics and physiology, selection and maintenance of equipment, and safe diving practices. In addition to pool training, students participate in four open water scuba dives and one skin dive. Upon course completion, students qualify for YMCA, PADI, and SSI Open Water Diver certification. The lecture portion of this course may be taken through independent study. In addition, individuals who are already certified as Open Water Divers (including military divers) may earn credit for this course by completing a knowledge review session. Contact the aquatics coordinator for details. Additional expenses include mask, fins, snorkel, texts, openwater dive fees, and related expenses. Certain past or present medical conditions may require a student to obtain a medical examination. Credit for this course may be earned through departmental examination. Course fee: $279.00
