This course is designed as an introduction to the Canterbury Tales of Geoffrey Chaucer. Students will learn to read, translate, and re-cite the original Middle English while becom-ing familiar with Chaucer's life and times and the social and political climate of late medieval England. This course will also examine vari-ous manuscript illustrations of his works as well as some modern electronic means for studying Chaucer and the Middle Ages more generally. No previous knowledge of Middle English is necessary. [AREA 1] Prerequisites: ENG 101 and 102
