4 hours. Prerequisite: Exemption from or successful completion of READ 0099 and MATH 0099; and FRSC 1155 and FRSC 2235 or FRSC 1160 with a grade of "C" or better. This course includes instruction in the following areas: structure and function of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), map projections and coordinate systems, geographic database editing, acquisition and interpretation of aerial photographs, incorporation of Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinate data into a GIS, and production of maps. Course emphasis is on GIS in a land management context. Hands-on experience is provided through laboratory exercises employing GIS software. Spring.
