Students will examine the author in depth, exploring the writer's career, major works, literary influence, and cultural context in order to understand his or her contribution to literary history. The author selected might be Chaucer, Milton, Austen, Dickens, Whitman, Dickinson, Wright, Faulkner, Hughes, Soyinka or Morrison.
