Three hours lecture per week. UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 100 C. This course is a survey of the history of Latin America from the late pre-Columbian era to the independence period. Emphasis is placed upon European conquest, the interaction of Europeans with Native American and African cultures, and the planting of colonial societies in the regions of Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Spanish, French, Portuguese, British, and Dutch America are compared as to their socio-cultural, economic, and political development during the colonial and independence periods.
