(Same as HI 102 C) Two hours lecture per week. CSU The focus of this course is on legal and ethical issues affecting the health care industry, health care providers, and health information managers. State laws, federal regulations, and case precedents form the basis for class discussion. Topics include tort law; confidentiality and release of medical information; informed consent; corporate and personal liability; patient rights; negligence and medical malpractice; contract and labor law; and ethics. Special emphasis is placed on the procedures for safeguarding the security of health care data to prevent inappropriate disclosure of confidential health information.
